How much does a calcium score test cost?
Prices recorded in our directory, what they include, and what to confirm before you book.
We track 1911 facilities, with 594 positive cash prices recorded in the directory. Only 117 of those prices have been confirmed by phone; the rest still need verification. They are a starting point for a phone call, not confirmed quotes or a representative national sample. Multiple locations may share one health system’s price.
22 additional listings record no-cost programs. These are counted separately from positive cash prices. Confirm eligibility, referral requirements and any other conditions directly with the facility.

The number you want is the cluster, not the range
A range of $45 to $599 is true and nearly useless — it is two outliers and a lot of air. The useful fact is where the prices bunch up.

The median of this directory’s recorded prices is $113. The amount you are actually charged may differ. A higher quote does not prove that the facility is quoting a different test; confirm the exam code and all included services with the scheduler.
Every facility we list at $99 or less, 243 of them, listed by state.
The national chains charge $199
The two national self-pay imaging chains that rank for these searches — American Health Imaging and Touchstone Medical Imaging — both advertise $199. We list 21 Touchstone locations and 29 American Health Imaging locations at exactly that price, so this is not a comparison against a competitor’s marketing; it is in our own data.
The median across all 594 recorded prices is $113. The chains are above it, not below. Convenience and a national booking system are worth something, but if price is what you are optimising, a local hospital outpatient department is usually cheaper than the chain advertising to you.

The same scan, at the middle of each state, ranges from the cheapest state to the dearest by more than a factor of five. That is not a difference in the exam — CPT 75571 is one procedure — it is a difference in what local facilities have decided to charge cash patients. Where your state is not listed, we do not yet list enough prices in it for a median; the state pages show every listing we have either way.

That is worth knowing before you drive. If the nearest location of a system is awkward to reach, a sister site is usually the same number — so choose on parking and appointment times rather than ringing round for a better price inside one brand. It also means a quote that differs materially from the price we list for that system is worth querying: ask whether you are being quoted the calcium scan or something else.
Before and after the scan
A calcium score is not the same test as a stress test: one counts calcified plaque and the other looks for reduced blood flow under strain (calcium score vs a stress test). If a chest CT you already had mentions coronary calcium, that note is not an Agatston score (calcium on a chest CT). The scan can also show things outside the heart arteries, which can mean follow-up costs (incidental findings).
Does insurance or Medicare cover it?
Usually not, when the scan is for screening, which is why a cash price exists at all. Original Medicare does not pay for it; private plans vary, some covering it only for people who meet their risk criteria and some not at all; and at least 4 states have laws that make some plans cover it. Before you book, compare two numbers: what your plan says you would owe for CPT 75571 once your deductible is counted, and the facility’s complete self-pay price. Paying cash is allowed even when you have insurance, so ask for the self-pay price either way, then choose.
Ask whether the radiologist’s read is included
Ask whether the quote includes both the scan and the radiologist’s interpretation, and whether there are facility or other charges. Our data cannot establish what every facility includes.

A missing price means we have not recorded one; it does not establish that no price is published anywhere. Contact the facility for its current quote.
What to say on the phone
Confirm the test on your clinician’s order and ask for the exam by code. “Heart scan” can describe more than one procedure.
- “What is your self-pay price for CPT 75571, coronary calcium scoring?”
- “Does that include the radiologist’s read?”
- “Do I need an order from a doctor first?”
- “Do you take an HSA or FSA card?”
On the third question: 132 facilities in the directory say they will book without one, and the self-referral list gives each one’s own conditions.
The price file a hospital must publish under federal rules can list a higher “discounted cash price” for the scan than the self-pay price the same hospital advertises, so ask for the self-pay price by name. What Florida hospital systems’ price files list, beside the price each one advertises.
If the quote differs from a listed price, confirm the exam and all included charges. Calcium scoring and CT angiography are different exams. ACR/RSNA patient guidance describes what the exam involves.

Listings record a source URL and date when available. The price summary reflects the directory’s current entries, including unverified ones. A recorded website source is not confirmation that the price, location or phone number is correct. Browse the listings to see their facility links and verification labels.
The figures on this page are the calcium score price index, which sets out how each one is computed, breaks them down by metro area, and publishes every listing as a free CSV and JSON download.
